Royal Flair’s story began in 1975, when Peter Deralas and his brother-in-law Steve Kanis founded a small caravan workshop in Melbourne’s northern suburbs. Before that, Peter had worked as a technician at Thorn TV, but his true passion lay in hands-on manufacturing. Their first business, New Home Caravans, produced around 15 caravans a week, all proudly built by hand; upholstery sewn by Peter’s wife, timber frames crafted in-house, and every detail shaped with care.

Through the 1980s and 1990s, the family weathered industry challenges, factory moves, and even recessions, yet the commitment to craftsmanship and quality never wavered. When the next generation stepped in, Billy Deralas took over in 1995, officially re-establishing the brand as Royal Flair Caravans. Under his leadership, the business shifted focus from high-volume production to boutique, premium manufacturing, building fewer caravans, but to a much higher standard.

From the early workshops in Coburg, Thomastown, and Campbellfield to today’s state-of-the-art Epping facility, Royal Flair has evolved into one of Australia’s most respected caravan manufacturers. The company has remained proudly family-owned for three generations, with Billy, his son Peter, and daughter Raquel continuing the tradition of innovation, quality, and integrity that Peter Deralas began half a century ago.
