As previously advised on our Facebook page, we did not publish an April issue due to a lack of newsworthy updates, fuel-related issues affecting travel, and other circumstances. That aside, we will do our best to bring everyone up to date in this issue with various news items and updates.
Several members have been asking when and where our next get-together or event will be held. As you know, our last event was much smaller due to the fuel situation and other challenges, but we still managed to have a great time.
As for our next event, I have spoken with Bill and he agrees that we will leave it on hold until we have a clearer understanding of the fuel situation and any other issues that could affect our ability to enjoy the event. Please keep an eye on our Facebook page for future updates.
Please note that, apart from the occasional suggestion from members, the Admins (including myself) do not make the final decisions regarding where we stay or what activities are organised. These decisions are made by Royal Flair.

TECH TALK WITH COLIN:
Winter is upon us, and many caravan owners are preparing to head north in search of warmer weather.
I recently had the good fortune of speaking with Safety Dave about some of the new products available for caravan safety. The accessory that impressed me most was the TPMS (Tyre Pressure Monitoring System).
This system monitors the tyre pressures of both your tow vehicle and caravan. Most importantly, it also measures wheel temperatures. The system will alert you if there is a potential braking or wheel-bearing issue and, for a relatively small investment, the peace of mind it provides is well worth it.

VAN PARTS WARNING:
Some members have reported purchasing replacement or additional parts for their vans through various social media outlets, including Facebook, only to discover that the parts failed after a short period or caused other issues with their caravan.
If you need to purchase any part for your Royal Flair van, please contact Carolyn in Spare Parts on (03) 9357 8118 or email spareparts@royalflair.com.au.
Purchasing genuine parts is always recommended. You should also check with our Warranty Department to ensure that any non-genuine parts do not affect future warranty claims.

BATTERY WARNING:
There has been a lot of discussion about batteries recently and, for many travellers, batteries are an essential part of caravan life.
However, there are dangers associated with battery use and, according to various reports, some of these risks are being ignored, resulting in property damage, injuries, financial loss, and heartbreak.
Advertisements frequently appear promoting cheap caravan and camping products, often suggesting they are essential for a great holiday. While saving money is always appealing, a lower price does not always guarantee safety.
Recently, Victorian Caravan Industry CEO Daniel Zahlberg and I discussed these concerns. As Daniel pointed out, incidents involving lithium batteries catching fire in caravans, scooters, e-bikes, and other devices are becoming increasingly common.
Some caravan parks are now refusing entry to campers travelling with electric bikes and scooters due to the associated risks. Parks are also warning guests about the dangers posed by lithium batteries in children’s toys and other devices.
As I write this, I noted a concerning statistic from a children’s hospital estimating that more than 50% of children sleep with devices charging under their pillows. This is an extremely dangerous practice and significantly increases the risk of fire.
ON THE ROAD WITH ROYAL FLAIR OWNERS:
With the price of diesel and petrol fluctuating across the country, many people have decided that staying closer to home is the best option. However, some members have still chosen to hit the road and take advantage of free camping areas and caravan parks offering fair and reasonable rates.
We have received reports of some caravan parks charging exorbitant prices for powered sites—up to $120 per night in some cases—and a few service stations charging as much as $3.70 per litre for fuel.
However, we would also like to thank the many service stations that have made genuine efforts to keep prices reasonable, helping travellers continue to enjoy their road trips. We also extend our thanks to our sponsor, Kui Parks, for assisting our members with affordable powered sites when needed.
It’s not all doom and gloom. A number of our members have recently headed off on adventures and kindly shared photos from their travels.
Janet Webber sent through a photo from her stay at Daly Waters Caravan Park, which offered good rates, a great meal, and enjoyable company from some of the local residents.
Tracy and Ron Tedeschi found themselves camped in a stunning outback location that, in their words, was better than any five-star hotel. The photo says it all!
